Make scheduled charging work with your charger’s power limits

A charging window is only useful if the charger can follow it. For a private charger owner, setting tomorrow’s start time is the beginning: the connector also needs the right configuration, a working connection and a charging method the hardware supports.

EVCharge.mobi brings those steps into one routine. Choose a schedule in the app, confirm it, then inspect what happened before making it your everyday setup. The platform’s handling of charging limits helps compatible chargers receive profiles in the units they support.

Start with one connector and one session

If you are bringing your own charger into EVCharge.mobi, use the first-charger setup guide to connect it. Check your account’s plan and limits, and make sure you have access to the connector you intend to use.

Confirm that the connector’s power type and maximum current and power describe the actual installation. A three-phase AC connector and a DC connector are different configurations. Ask your installer or operator to resolve uncertain values; changing a software maximum does not increase the capacity of the wiring or vehicle.

In the EVCharge app, open the charger and select the connector. With a fixed or missing tariff, choose Schedule and set the start and end time. With a dynamic tariff, choose Smart, review the price chart and select the periods you want. Check the estimate before confirming.

Leave the vehicle plugged in and the charger online. For your first check, choose a window when you can inspect the session and resolve any unexpected result.

See the public app screenshot for an example of the scheduling controls. Its charger, dates and power rating are demo values, not recommended settings.

How the platform expresses a charging limit

When EVCharge.mobi creates a new transaction charging profile, it checks the charger’s reported supported units and the connector’s configured power type. Where an AC charger reports support for both current and power, new profiles prefer amperes. For DC with both units supported, they use watts. If the charger reports only one supported unit, the profile uses that unit.

New transaction charging profiles: when both units are supported, AC uses amperes and DC uses watts; a single supported unit is used as reported. Unknown capability falls back to watts and needs verification.

When both units are supported, new AC profiles prefer amperes and DC profiles use watts. A charger reporting only one supported unit uses that unit; unknown capabilities retain a watt fallback. Existing profiles keep their stored unit. Open the diagram at full size for a closer view.

For an enabled period in these profiles, the platform uses the connector’s configured maximum current or power, as appropriate. A disabled period receives a zero limit. This is why accurate connector information matters even when your app task is simply choosing times.

You do not need to convert amperes to watts when selecting periods in the app. You do need a compatible charger and trustworthy configuration. Missing capability information is not proof of support: the platform retains a watt fallback when the relevant information is unknown. Confirm actual behaviour before relying on the routine.

This unit handling applies to transaction charging profiles. It does not redesign site load management or the alternative scheduling method that uses start and stop commands.

Check the outcome before repeating it

After the selected window, inspect the session in Insights. Compare its timing and recorded energy with the routine you intended. If charging was slower than expected, check the vehicle’s demand, site limits and other charging profiles as well as the schedule.

The selected period allows charging within the applicable limits; it does not promise that the vehicle will draw the connector’s maximum throughout. Likewise, an estimated cost is not the final bill. Prices, available power and vehicle demand can change the result.

If you edit an active transaction’s charging profile, EVCharge.mobi keeps its stored unit. Existing profiles are not automatically converted to the preference used for new ones. An unknown stored unit prevents the edit, so inspect an unsuccessful result instead of assuming the new periods took effect.

Turn a verified session into a routine

Once the first result is clear, charger owners can open Charger settings → Automation. A recurring schedule sets a daily start and end time. Smart automation requires a vehicle in the account and a dynamic tariff on the connector; choose the vehicle and daily ready time, then select Apply.

Keep the Smart and scheduled charging guide beside the app while setting this up. A useful first success is a confirmed schedule followed by a session you can account for. Repeating that verified setup makes EVCharge.mobi part of the charging routine, with less need to set each session manually.
